CIM HK Fellow's Dinner
Theme: THROWING MONEY AWAY?
Speaker: Laurie Young
Professional services firms typically spend
up to 5% of turnover on marketing and business development.
However, they have traditionally adopted an organic approach
to marketing. As a result, few have the right marketing and
business development structures to ensure this money is wisely
spent and that its impact effectively tracked. So how do you
structure marketing and business development resources in
order to generate the highest returns?
It is essential for firms to understand what
good marketing is: a management process by which the leaders
of a firm grow the business. As firms grow, the way the leaders
approach marketing should become more sophisticated, to the
point where marketing is developed into a fully integrated
function with well-defined roles and responsibilities, processes
and proper measurement techniques.
In 2003, Laurie, a Trustee of The Chartered
Institute of Marketing at that time, delivered a very impressive
talk on Bring Professional Services to Market at a Fellow's
Dinner in Hong Kong. Audience, not only came from Fellows
and Members of the Institute, but practitioners from many
professional services firms, such as legal, accountancy, financial,
medical etc. They all found Laurie's talk very enlightening,
informative and gave them thoughts to re-think about marketing
as a management approach in professional service. It is a
pleasure to have Laurie returning this time to Hong Kong to
update professional services firms "Not to throw money
away".
